Improving Performance in Practice

Improving Performance in Practice (IPIP) is an ABMS Research and Education Foundation (REF) initiative that ties evidence-based national quality measures to the delivery of consistent high-quality primary care. Since its inception in 2006, IPIP has advanced quality care by creating models of practice support that have been emulated in primary care practices throughout the United States. In collaboration with primary care certifying boards (ABMS Member Boards) and specialty societies, REF designed and implemented this initiative that provides physicians in smaller practices with the tools, support, and coaching to help them assess their performance.
The AF4Q National Program Office partnered with the IPIP team to provide technical assistance to AF4Q Alliances seeking to advance their ambulatory quality improvement initiatives (AQI). IPIP consultants are experts in clinical quality improvement with a wealth of experience in community-based primary care initiatives. IPIP experts worked closely with Alliance teams to provide selected alliances with in-depth strategic planning for regional AQI, iterative progress review, goal-setting milestone calls, and facilitation of affinity groups around specific topics, such as developing and sustaining practice support programs.
