According to a study presented at the 2012 meeting of the American Association of Clinical Endocrinologists, using electronic health records for insulin order sets could improve glycemic control among hospitalized patients with diabetes. The study found that after the adoption of EHR-based insulin order sets: Rates of hypoglycemia (or low blood sugar levels) dropped from 9.6% to 3.8% and rates of euglycemia (or normal blood sugar levels) increased from 60% to 65%.
