HealthCare 21 Business Coalition

HealthCare 21 Business Coalition (HC21) is a non-profit member-driven organization committed to improving the quality and cost of health care in Tennessee and the surrounding region. HC21 represents over 70 members and 450,000 covered lives in eastern and middle Tennessee. HC21 believes only cooperative relationships between employers, health plans, hospitals, and providers can produce positive and progressive changes in the healthcare of our local community and our society. HC21 brings all parties to the table with a common goal of transforming healthcare locally.
 
The College for Value Based Purchasing of Health Benefits (CVBP), a joint partnership between National Business Coalition on Health, Greater Philadelphia Business Coalition on Health, and HC21, was created to help employee benefit managers meet the growing challenges of providing high quality health benefits and managing rising benefit costs. The CVBP is an educational program designed to educate local markets about how they can accelerate improvement in healthcare value (increasing quality and safety and decreasing costs of care). The College curriculum emphasizes specific strategies that employers can implement individually and through participation in multi-stakeholder initiatives, to drive system change. The College provides a practical, intensive program that focuses on benefits purchasing techniques and skills that emphasize improving the value, quality-cost ratio, and effectiveness of health care services purchased on behalf of employees.  Each year, CVBP hosts a minimum of three College sessions within the United States.  Since its formation in 2004, the College has been held over 20 times and trained over 650 health benefits professionals. 
 
In 2014, the Robert Wood Johnson Foundation, through its Aligning Forces for Quality initiative, funded an extensive update to the College curriculum.
