The five major health systems in Cincinnati are asking patients to identify their race, ethnicity, and preferred language (R/E/L). The Institute of Medicine’s 2002 report Unequal Treatment detailed consistent evidence of disparities of care provided in the United States. By collecting patient R/E/L data, hospitals can pinpoint possible differences in care and areas for improvement.

YourHealthMatters.org, a community-based website that reports and compares how physician practices perform in Greater Cincinnati, has re-launched with a new design and expanded public performance reports. As the Patient-Centered Medical Home (PCMH) model of care for primary care physicians continues to gain momentum in the nation as a way to promote high quality and cost effective care, a new group of primary care practices in Cincinnati began a two year program to transform their practices. The first two cohorts will be wrapping up their program in September. Cincinnati Aligning Forces for Quality (Cincinnati AF4Q) is led by the Health Collaborative. Established in 1992, the Health Collaborative is a diverse coalition of health care stakeholders representing the hospital, physician, employer, insurer, government, education and consumer sectors.
